A native of Vermillion, South Dakota, Deacon Tom
Sr.
came to St. Joan of Arc Parish in 1989 from the Diocese of Harrisburg in
Pennsylvania, where he was ordained a permanent deacon by then Bishop William
Keeler on June 4, 1983, at St. Patrick Cathedral, Harrisburg. While there he served as deacon at St. Matthew Parish in
Dauphin, Pennsylvania. He is now incardinated into the Diocese of Columbus.
In addition to many pastoral and sacramental ministries, Deacon Tom is
Director of the parish's RCIA program.
Deacon Tom earned bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from the
University of Colorado. He worked for the Pennsylvania State Geological
Survey for 24 years. He served as State Geologist and Chief of the
Division of Geological Survey in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
from 1989 to 2006. In retirement Deacon Tom does geological writing.
Deacon Tom and his wife Betty have five children and 15 grandchildren.
